Our Home has been Set!
March 12, 2025, marked a significant milestone in our journey of building our dream home. Eagerly anticipating this day, I chose to work remotely from the farm, ensuring I wouldn't miss a single moment. We arrived bright and early at 8:00 AM, greeted by the impressive sight of the first convoy of heavy equipment already on site. My heart raced a bit as I watched the massive crane carefully prepare to lift the modular sections of our new home, a beautiful 1,968-square-foot structure crafted by Pennwest Homes.
As exciting as it was, I won't deny feeling a bit stressed seeing our future home suspended mid-air, gently swinging into place atop the basement foundation built by the team at Middletown Homes in West Virginia. Yet, it was equally astonishing to witness the precision, skill, and coordination of the crews. Within hours, each section settled gracefully onto the basement, transforming what was previously just a foundation into the recognizable shape of our new home.
The excitement continued when, on Saturday, March 15, we had the opportunity to do our first walkthrough with the project manager. Stepping inside for the first time felt surreal. Although much remains to be done, including extensive interior finishing, flooring, electrical and plumbing hookups, and drywall touch-ups, we could already envision the warmth and comfort this house would soon offer.
Additionally, we discussed plans for finishing the expansive basement, which effectively doubles our living space to nearly 4,000 square feet. In the basement, we will have an additional full bathroom, MDF room and possibly a theater and a gaming room. (These are all going to be up to Chris’s creative vision) This space will provide ample room for family gatherings and hobbies. We also finalized the details for a charming 12x8 covered porch that will be constructed at the front of the home, offering the perfect spot for relaxing evenings overlooking our property.
Even though we're still looking at approximately 60 to 90 days before everything is completed and ready for move-in, it's exhilarating to see our vision coming to life so clearly. Each day brings us closer to calling this beautiful structure home, and we can't wait to start filling these spaces with memories.
